GIGGING FEELING GOOD…

Just a month into properly promoting myself as available for gigging at events and its feeling good!

Those that know me, understand my day job is working as a receptionist at a local Racket Sport club and gym. They give me the flexibility to go for regular auditions in London at a moments notice and persue my dream of being a performer.

Over the past two years i have performed in some really good amateur theatre productions including panto which was a first for me. But, whilst i do love doing them, especially the Bingley Panto, they are very time consuming. So this year i decided to finish the panto at Ilkley, buy myself a good speaker system and promote gigging.

Four gigs done and many more booked and my bank balance is looking so much better and my voice is being regularly used!  I can now afford to reinstate my singing lessons too 🙂

Here is just a snippet of the first gig i did at a local bar, The Royal in Crossflats….

Loving my new BOSE speaker…

I spent last year borrowing other peoples kit when it came to performing gigs, so I’ve made the investment in my own. I am now the proud owner of some easy to transport kit. This includes a microphone and stand with a really great quality Bose Portable Speaker system and I love it.

Let me add a bit of vocal warmth to your next event.

Check out my gig reel here.

NOW GIGGING…

If you are looking for a vocalist for an event please get in touch. I’m based in Bingley, near Bradford in Yorkshire but will travel.

I have had singing lessons since the age of 12. I studied Musical Theatre at University, where I also sung in the choral choir for 3 years, then at 21 I got a scholarship to do a master’s degree at the Royal Academy of Music in London.

Last year, I was asked to sing at several events, including charity fundraising evenings, birthday events, and even pre-match rugby club performances. So, I’ve decided to purchase a decent Bose speaker and microphone and do it more often, as it’s a great way to keep my vocals on point.

If you’d like a singer for a special event you are planning, please get in touch. My rep list is getting longer, so I have plenty of songs to choose from in different genres. If you want a specific song, give me enough time to learn it, and that’s fine too.

The cost varies depending on duration and location, but as a guide, I charge £100 per hour.

Check out the videos below to see some of my singing performances over the years and I’ll be adding some special gig video compilations over the coming weeks.

Netflix Toxic Town Series…

Opening this week on Netflix is a new 4 episode drama featuring Jodie Whittaker. It’s called Toxic Town and is based on a true story from 1984 when dozens of babies in Corby are born with disabilities and their mothers embark on a battle to hold those responsible to account. I was in the series, playing a news reporter, which was a tiny part, but i loved it and was lucky to appear in some of the publicity including social media adverts and the trailer. It was a great experience to watch all these amazing actors at work, hope to do more of this type of work in the future. It had some really experienced actors in the cast including Robert Carlyle, Brendan Coyle & Rory Kinnear…

Spooky Make-up

One of the benefits of doing musical theatre at college, Uni then drama school over 6 years, is learning to do your own stage make-up.

It is particularly advantageous for annual Halloween parties. Here are just a few of my creations over the past 4 years…

On BBC Childrens TV…..Odd Squad

BBC TV debut, thanks to Articulate Agency. Yes, I got my first 5 minutes of TV fame (well about 20 seconds to be honest) on the BBC Childrens TV series of ‘Odd Squad’. If you’re not a child or parent, it’s a show you probably haven’t seen, but it’s a really popular childrens comedy show now in its 4th season, which was released in October, about kid agents that work for a secret government agency.  I played a singer in episode 5 and it meant a couple of days filming in Manchester over a year ago, which was great fun.  I thought I looked particularly fetching in the glasses beret 🙂

First film acting reel….

This was lots of fun. I was asked by a friend who I went to Craven College with many years ago, Sam Jewitt, to do an acting show reel with him. It was his project and I was delighted he wanted me to be involved. We spent a windy morning in Manchester by the canal and produced a short 3 1/2 minute film. Having done focused on musical theatre, I wanted to ensure that I didn’t over act this part, there was no coming on with ‘jazz hands’ and it was quite a serious script, so lots to think about. But I loved it and I am proud of my performance, I thought it was good for a first stab at an acting reel.  Check it out on my video page here

First Solo Gig for Cancer Research UK…

On Friday 19th April, we held an event at the Heaton Tennis & Squash Club to raise funds for Cancer Research UK and I was the live entertainment for the evening, which was called “Sensational Singing Sophie”.

Over 100 people attended, the event started at 8pm and 24 songs later we had raised over £1500 for CRUK. Each song was sponsored and most songs were chosen by the sponsor too, so there were quite a few to learn.

We had a raffle and an auction and a great buffet was provided by Chef T.

Here are just a few cuts from some of the songs nominated on the evening.

A great time was had by all…and it was all for a good cause.
